Gee ‘n Ess & “I” is a one-man musical show five years in the making that highlights 11 of the light comic operas of W.S. Gilbert (Gee) and Arthur Sullivan (Ess) including: The MikadoThe Pirates of Penzance and H.M.S. Pinafore. The show is a culmination of community talent, years of planning and a deep appreciation for Gilbert and Sullivan and the impact they had on the Arts.

Gee ‘n Ess & “I” is unique in its delivery. The live, on-stage “I”, that is, George Jarden (who wrote the show), sings, dances, acts and interacts with pre-videoed musical and dramatic vignettes (played by himself) displayed on two projection screens above the stage.  Also on video are a variety of still-art cartoons and caricatures, and text titles and notes identifying songs and moments, complementing the on stage and moving video action.  Gee ‘n Ess & “I” features portions of some 70 G&S songs and acting bits, and a like number of roles!

The complexity of the presentation has required the devoted and insightful creativity of a bevy of brilliant designers (Creative Team), who have brought to the show their talents in stage direction, graphic arts, choreography, digital score creation and sound mixing, costuming and video shoot and editing.

Over Easter and Mother’s Day weeks, 2010, “I” and 4/Arts Productions - a nonprofit corporation - dedicated to fostering the Arts among youth, presented 10 performances, including two free shows for area schoolchildren, at the historic Rio Grande Theatre, on the Downtown Mall, Las Cruces, NM.
